Alabama UPS Driver Killed in Targeted Shooting Incident

A UPS worker in Birmingham, Alabama, named Anthony Lamar Love Jr. was fatally shot in what police believe to be a deliberate attack. 

On Tuesday evening, Love Jr. was leaving work at a UPS facility on Inglenook Lane when the incident occurred. 

A spokesperson from the Birmingham Police Department, Sergeant LaQuitta Wade, reported that Love Jr. was attacked and shot by an unidentified person shortly after completing his shift.

Police were called to the scene of a shooting at around 6 p.m. 

Upon arrival, they discovered Love Jr. unconscious and injured from a gunshot. 

Emergency responders were unable to save Love Jr. and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant Wade has stated that early investigations point to the shooting being targeted, indicating that Love Jr. was specifically singled out by the shooter.

Authorities have not released a description of the suspect and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. 

The Birmingham Police Department is requesting the public’s help in providing any information related to the incident to aid in their ongoing investigation.

The incident has saddened the Birmingham community and Love Jr.’s colleagues at UPS. 

The company released a statement offering their sympathies to Love Jr.’s family, friends, and coworkers.

The organization has committed to providing full cooperation to law enforcement as they proceed with their investigation of the shooting. Love Jr.’s death is the latest addition to the 36 homicides in Birmingham this year.

Violence has occurred at the UPS facility in Birmingham before. 

In September 2014, two UPS employees, Brian Callans and Doug Hutcheson, were tragically killed by a former coworker, Joe Tesney. 

Tesney, who was laid off from his job, attacked Callans and Hutcheson before committing suicide.

The shooting incident has sparked concerns among UPS employees and residents in Birmingham, leading to demands for enhanced security measures and heightened awareness. 

The Birmingham Police Department has stated that this incident was a deliberate attack and that there is no immediate threat to the surrounding community.

The investigation into Love Jr.’s death is ongoing, with friends, family, and colleagues grieving his loss and cherishing his memory.
