Biden Urges National Unity on Thanksgiving Day

President Joe Biden made a plea for unity in a deeply divided United States on Thanksgiving Day. Continuing a family tradition, he celebrated the holiday on an island off of Cape Cod.

In a phone call to NBC News’ Al Roker before the Thanksgiving Day parade in Manhattan, Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, emphasized the importance of Americans coming together to address the nation’s challenges.

Despite political differences, Biden stressed the shared view that the United States is the greatest nation in the world. He called for an end to acrimony and for the nation to “treat each other with a little bit of decency.”

The Bidens spent their Thanksgiving holiday at the waterfront home of billionaire David Rubenstein, co-founder of The Carlyle Group. They made calls to military units from each branch and later visited the Nantucket Fire Department to bring gifts.

In addition to these activities, Biden has been monitoring the Israel-Hamas deal to release hostages held in Gaza. Although reporters asked him about the progress of the deal, the president declined to give an update.

During his earlier remarks at the parade, Biden chose to avoid discussing the hostage deal and any partisan messages. He expressed optimism and hope for the future.

However, his re-election campaign released an email titled, “Your Handy Guide for Responding To Crazy MAGA Nonsense This Thanksgiving,” providing suggestions on how to respond to political discussions during dinner.

On the other hand, former President Donald Trump took a gloomier tone with a social media post that claimed the country was in serious trouble.

Nantucket has become a regular vacation spot for the Biden family during Thanksgiving. It began in 1975 when Biden was a widower and dating Jill Jacobs. Instead of choosing between the two families, they went to Nantucket together.

Biden described the chilly island atmosphere and the emptiness that comes after the end of the season. The once quiet vacation has now transformed due to Biden’s presidency, as he travels with a large support staff and an entourage of vehicles and cargo.

Before concluding their call with Roker, Jill Biden spoke about the importance of committing acts of kindness on Thanksgiving. She encouraged people to reach out to loved ones and wish them a Happy Thanksgiving or perform acts of kindness.

The president and his family also participated in a “polar bear plunge” tradition, braving the frigid waters of Nantucket. A photo posted by Naomi Biden on the social media platform X showcased the group by the water’s edge, wrapped in towels and presumably relieved to be back on solid ground.
