Broadway has lost a talented performer as Clifton Oliver, known for his roles in iconic productions such as “The Lion King,” “Wicked,” and “In the Heights,” has passed away at the age of 47.
His sister, Roxy Hall, shared the sad news of his passing via a heartfelt Facebook post.

Clifton had been battling an undisclosed illness, and he took his last breath peacefully at 3:20 AM, with his partner Richard singing Psalm 23 to him during the poignant moment.
In her tribute, Roxy expressed a mix of emotions, being both sad and overjoyed at her brother’s passing.
She described his final moments as him going “twirling into the afterlife” to become the star of his own homecoming celebration.
Despite the sadness of losing him, she found comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace.
The Broadway community also paid tribute to Clifton’s legacy on Instagram, honoring the talent he shared with audiences across Broadway, Las Vegas, and North American tours from 2000 to 2011.
In remembrance of Clifton Oliver, the lights at the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City will be dimmed on Tuesday at 5 p.m, paying homage to his contributions to the world of theater.
Born in 1975 in Jacksonville, Florida, Clifton moved to New York City in 2010 to pursue his Broadway career.
He made a name for himself through standout performances in “The Lion King” and “In the Heights,” where he played the character Benny alongside Jordin Sparks.
The Broadway community and his fans will forever cherish the talent and light he brought to the stage.
