Constitutional Violations By Trump Prompt Demand For Ban From 2024 Election: Over 125k Supporters Have Signed On Petition

Donald Trump was well aware of the potential challenges he would encounter during his 2024 presidential campaign. However, the extent of these challenges has expanded, as his eligibility to run for office is now being called into question.

MoveOn, a campaign group, initiated a petition in November aimed at persuading government officials to disqualify Trump from participating in the 2024 presidential election. The basis for this request stems from allegations of Trump’s violation of the Constitution.

Challenging Trump’s Eligibility Based on Fourteenth Amendment Violation

Within a fortnight of its inception, the petition managed to amass an impressive 50,000 signatures. As of Monday, the number of signatories has exceeded 125,000. MoveOn has set a target of reaching 200,000 signatures.

The primary allegation put forth in the petition asserts that Donald Trump’s conduct during and following the events of the Capitol riot on January 6th constitutes a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.

The petition specifically cites Article Three, which stipulates that individuals who have participated in insurrection or rebellion subsequent to taking a congressional oath should be disqualified from pursuing public office.

In the comments section of the petition’s description page, signatories were provided with the opportunity to express their motivations for supporting the cause.

One of the petition signers, Jeanue S., expressed their perspective by stating, “A peaceful demonstration is one thing. Destroying the capital and seeking to harm individuals while also vandalizing their offices is an entirely different matter. Such individuals should be prohibited from seeking any governmental position.”

Another signer, Steven B., conveyed his viewpoint, saying, “Trump has contravened the Constitution. We must decide whether we are a nation that upholds the rule of law and believes in the principles enshrined in the Constitution or not. This is an opportunity for us to define who we are.”

The petition explicitly asserts that Donald Trump and his associates orchestrated, endorsed, and financed a criminal conspiracy resulting in the January 6 insurrection.

It emphasizes the necessity of a robust response to hold Trump accountable for his actions, which have detrimentally impacted our democratic system.

Furthermore, the petition contends that Trump’s ongoing actions are centered around setting the stage for a future coup to secure his position in the White House in 2024, irrespective of the voters’ will.

A History of Repeating Offenses: Fourteenth Amendment Applications

The employment of the Fourteenth Amendment to challenge political figures is not an isolated incident. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and Representative Madison Cawthorn, for instance, faced accusations of involvement in inciting an insurrection, which, in turn, prompted calls for their disqualification from holding office.

Despite the accusations, a judge dismissed the attempt to bar Greene from her position, citing “insufficient evidence” to substantiate the claims of her contribution to inciting an insurrection.

On the other hand, Cawthorn voluntarily relinquished her office after losing to Senator Chuck Edwards in the GOP primary election.

The petition gained even greater traction following Trump’s explicit call for the dissolution of the Constitution and his persistent insistence on the alleged fraudulence of the 2020 election.

Trump utilized the platform of Truth Social to express his viewpoint, proclaiming, “Considering the extensive and widespread fraud and deception perpetrated in close collaboration with Big Tech Companies, the DNC, and the Democratic Party, should we invalidate the results of the 2020 Presidential Election and declare the true winner, or should we hold a new election?”

In his statement, Trump further asserted, “Fraud of such magnitude permits the disregard of all rules, regulations, and even constitutional provisions.

Our esteemed ‘Founders’ neither desired nor would have condoned false and fraudulent elections!” The fervor surrounding these remarks led to an increased surge in support for the petition.
