Donald Trump Trails Joe Biden by Slim Margin in Recent Polls

Recent U.S.-wide polls reveal that former President Donald Trump trails President Joe Biden by a small margin in a potential presidential matchup.

Two polls conducted by Ipsos and YouGov show Biden leading Trump by one to two percentage points, although an earlier Newsweek analysis indicated Trump’s strength in crucial swing states.

Trump’s Recent Victory in Iowa

On January 15, Donald Trump secured a significant victory in the Iowa Republican caucus, capturing 51 percent of the vote.

Remaining Trail By Huge Margin

Governor Ron DeSantis came in second with 21.2 percent, followed by Nikki Haley at 19.1 percent. Vivek Ramaswamy, who later dropped out and endorsed Trump, received 7.7 percent of the vote.

The Ipsos survey, conducted for Reuters, gathered opinions from 3,815 registered voters between January 3 and 9. In a head-to-head matchup between Biden and Trump, Biden led with 40 percent of voters, while Trump received 38 percent support.

RFK Gets 17 Points

When including third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Biden and Trump dropped to 34 percent and 33 percent, respectively, with Kennedy receiving 17 percent support.

YouGov Poll Findings

The YouGov poll, conducted for The Economist between January 14 and 16, showed Biden leading Trump by 44 percent to 43 percent among 1,472 registered voters.

Younger Voters Prefer Biden

Notably, Biden enjoyed more significant support among younger voters, winning the 18-29 demographic with 56 percent to Trump’s 29 percent.

Trump Stronger in Above 65

In contrast, Trump led among voters aged 65 and above, securing 51 percent compared to Biden’s 40 percent.

Females Prefer Biden

Biden also held a substantial lead among female voters, with 46 percent support to Trump’s 38 percent, while Trump led male voters by six points.

Preferences by Race

Regarding race, Trump had a lead among white voters by 50 percent to 39 percent. However, Biden led among Black and Hispanic voters, with 57 percent support to 18 percent and 50 percent to 31 percent, respectively.

Upcoming Primary in New Hampshire

Primary voters in New Hampshire are set to cast their votes on January 23. A recent Suffolk University, The Boston Globe, and NBC poll gave Trump a 16-point lead over Nikki Haley.
