Fernando Villavicencio, a candidate in Ecuador’s presidential election, was tragically killed in an armed attack during a campaign rally in the capital city.

The news of Villavicencio’s death was confirmed by Ecuador’s president, Guillermo Lasso, as well as local media reports.
Lasso expressed his outrage and condolences over the assassination, vowing that the crime would not go unpunished.

Villavicencio, a former lawmaker, was shot at the campaign event in Quito.
The attorney general’s office reported that one suspect died in custody after an ensuing firefight, and six others were detained by the police.
