GOP Governors Support Texas in Faceoff with Biden

Republican governors from various states have thrown their support behind Texas Governor Greg Abbott in the escalating conflict with the Biden administration over immigration enforcement. This alliance comes in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling and Abbott’s declaration of an invasion.

In a 5-4 Supreme Court decision, federal agents were granted the temporary authority to resume dismantling the razor wire installed by Texas along a section of the U.S.-Mexico border. Governor Abbott had implemented these aggressive measures to deter illegal immigration.

Despite the Supreme Court ruling, Texas has intensified its efforts by erecting additional razor wire near the border. Governor Abbott maintains that the battle is far from over and commends the Texas National Guard for their role in “holding the line.”

Governor Abbott asserts that Texas has a constitutional “right to self-defense” and is acting within its authority, including state law, to secure the border. He contends that the Biden administration has neglected its duty to enforce immigration laws, triggering Texas’s right to self-defense.

Governor Abbott has declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 of the Constitution, invoking Texas’s constitutional authority to protect itself. He emphasized that this authority supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary.

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida affirmed that Texas is upholding the law while President Biden disregards it.

He wrote on X, formerly Twitter “If the Constitution really made states powerless to defend themselves against an invasion, it wouldn’t have been ratified in the first place and Texas would have never joined the union when it did.” He added that Florida would continue “assisting Texas with personnel and assets.”

Georgia’s Full Support

Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia expresses full support for Abbott and Texas, citing the crisis at the southern border due to the Biden administration’s inaction.

“Enough is enough. Our southern border is in crisis thanks to the Biden administration’s refusal to do their job,” he wrote.

Montana’s Backing

Governor Greg Gianforte of Montana asserted that Abbott is doing what President Biden won’t. He wrote on X “Governor @GregAbbott_TX is doing what @POTUS won’t. By refusing to act, President Biden is inviting cartels, illegal drugs, and human trafficking into the United States. We must secure the southern border.”

Oklahoma’s Stand

Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota praised Abbott’s decision to invoke Texas’s constitutional authority.

She wrote, “@GregAbbott_TX is exactly right to invoke Texas’ constitutional authority to defend itself. The Biden Administration has created a national security crisis and put Americans in danger. Their failure is an unconstitutional dereliction of duty. South Dakota has been proud to help Gov. Abbott’s efforts to secure our border.”

Virginia’s Support

Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia declared that his state stands with Texas. He put up this message on X “Virginia stands with Texas. @GregAbbott_TX is doing the job Joe Biden and his border czar refuse to do to secure our border. The Biden administration has turned every state into a border state. We must stop the flow of fentanyl, save lives, and secure our southern border.”
