House Ethics Committee Investigates Rep. Matt Gaetz’s Alleged Presence at Drug-Fueled 2017 Party Involving a Minor

The House Ethics Committee is currently investigating Rep. Matt Gaetz regarding allegations of illicit drug use during his tenure in Congress.

This inquiry includes examining his presence at parties in Florida where drug use was reported.

Sources close to the investigation have revealed details about a particular party in the summer of 2017, which Gaetz is alleged to have attended.

This event reportedly involved substantial alcohol and drug use, including substances like cocaine and MDMA.

The party in question was not just notable for its alleged substance use but also for the presence of a minor who is central to an ongoing Justice Department investigation.

This minor was reportedly seen naked at the event, and the setting included rooms designated for sexual activities.

Despite the serious nature of the allegations, the Justice Department has recently decided against charging Gaetz.

However, the sworn statement obtained by the Ethics Committee suggests that there might be more to the story, although it does not directly accuse Gaetz of sexual misconduct with the minor.

Rep. Gaetz has vehemently denied all allegations of wrongdoing, including those suggesting he had relations with a minor.

During an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News in 2021, Gaetz said, “The person doesn’t exist. I have not had a relationship with a 17-year-old, that is totally false.”

His office has also denied any drug use since he became a member of Congress.

The Ethics Committee’s approach has been comprehensive, involving inquiries into not just Gaetz’s drug use but also whether he purchased drugs.

These allegations extend to claims of Gaetz being involved in organized sex parties, which were reportedly financed by his associate Joel Greenberg.

The investigation has stirred considerable political drama, with Gaetz attributing his troubles to retaliatory actions by political adversaries, specifically linking them to former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s downfall.

When asked about this at an event, McCarthy said, “I’ll give you the truth why I’m not speaker. It’s because one person, a member of Congress, wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old.”

In an apparent rebuttal to McCarthy, Gaetz wrote on X, “Kevin McCarthy is a liar. That’s why he is no longer speaker.”

Gaetz was recently involved in grilling President Biden’s son Hunter over his own drug use as part of a House Oversight Committee.

During the questioning, Gaetz asked Hunter if he was “on drugs” during his duties with an energy company based in Ukraine.

Hunter’s cryptic answer was, “Mr. Gaetz, look me in the eye. You really think that’s appropriate to ask me?”

The allegations against Gaetz highlight broader issues of ethics and conduct among U.S. lawmakers, with the Ethics Committee’s ongoing probe serving as a focal point for these concerns.

Gaetz has also alleged that he was being targeted due to his role in McCarthy’s ouster.

He had said earlier in a statement to a news outlet, “The Ethics Committee is engaging in payback against me for ousting the person who singularly appointed every Republican – Kevin McCarthy.”

As the investigation progresses, the potential legal and political implications for Gaetz continue to build.

This situation places his career under scrutiny and could have significant consequences depending on the outcomes of the various inquiries and the public’s response.

As more information comes to light and additional witnesses are called, the House Ethics Committee is poised to further delve into the allegations surrounding Gaetz.

This high-profile case not only captivates public interest but also underscores the intricate balance of ethics, politics, and law in the governance of public officials.
