Police in Illinois have launched a death investigation after the body of a 51-year-old man was discovered in Lake Arlington, Arlington Heights.

The investigation was initiated following a 911 call from Arlington Heights Park District staff who found personal belongings near the sailboat launch at Lake Arlington.

Upon responding to the scene, officers found the owner’s vehicle in the parking lot and learned that the victim had been reported missing to Wheeling Police.
A large team of fire officers, divers, and paramedics conducted an extensive search of the area.
Arlington Heights and Wheeling police utilized drones to search over the water, shoreline, and wooded areas, while officers on the ground performed a grid search.
With the assistance of sonar technology deployed from a fire boat and scuba divers, an anomaly was detected roughly 30 feet offshore from where the personal belongings were found.
Subsequent investigation by divers led to the recovery of the body from the water.
Paramedics on-site confirmed that resuscitation was not possible.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
