Ken Buck Criticizes Members of His Party for Spreading False Information

Republican Representative Ken Buck did not hold back in his criticism of his own party, accusing those who continue to claim that the 2020 election was stolen of “lying to America.” In an interview on a television show, Buck stated, “Everybody who thinks that the election was stolen or talks about the election being stolen is lying to America.”

He didn’t stop there, adding, “Everyone who makes the argument that January 6 was, you know, an unguided tour of the Capitol is lying to America.” This is not the first time that Buck, a member of the Trump-aligned House Freedom Caucus, has spoken out against his party’s refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election or condemn the violent attack on the Capitol.

Earlier this month, Buck announced that he would not seek reelection in 2024, citing the dishonesty of many Republican leaders. Buck did not mention former President Donald Trump by name, but he urged his party to find an alternative candidate who would not deceive the country.

He stated, “I hope all of my Republican colleagues become more clear and recognize the fact that Joe Biden is an existential threat to this country. We need to defeat him and we do that with someone who’s not lying to the country.”

When asked about House Speaker Mike Johnson, who led an effort to challenge the 2020 election results through a legal scheme in Texas, Buck acknowledged that he had supported the amicus brief Johnson was pushing.

However, he made a distinction between challenging an election through the courts, which he believed is appropriate, and attempting to interfere with the legislative function of counting votes, as occurred on January 6.

Buck also expressed his confidence that Speaker Johnson would not face the same backlash as former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was removed with the help of a faction of Republican hardliners, including Buck. He explained, “I don’t think that most Republicans blame Speaker Johnson for the problems that he is now facing… Speaker Johnson is doing a good job to work his way through those issues.”

In his criticism of his party’s hardliners, Buck emphasizes the importance of honesty and integrity in politics, calling for Republicans to confront the challenges ahead with truth and a commitment to the democratic process.
