Massive Lead for Trump in Primary and General Election, New Poll Finds

A recent poll conducted by Harvard-Harris reveals that former President Donald Trump continues to hold a significant lead over President Joe Biden in a hypothetical two-way race for the presidency. In addition, Trump’s support among GOP primary voters is approaching 70 percent.

According to the poll, 53 percent of the 2,581 registered voters surveyed nationwide would back Trump in a head-to-head race with Biden when undecided voters were pressed to choose a candidate they leaned toward.

Biden received 47 percent of the response, indicating a one percent decrease in support compared to the October survey. Trump, on the other hand, saw a one percent increase in his support.

If we exclude voters who lean towards a particular candidate, Trump’s support remains strong at 48 percent, while Biden receives 41 percent. Eleven percent of respondents stated that they were undecided.

When the poll included Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a third option, he drew support from both Trump and Biden, although Biden’s support suffered more. With undecided leaners included, Trump leads with 44 percent, giving him an eight-point advantage over Biden, who received 36 percent of support. Kennedy Jr. received a substantial 21 percent of support.

Trump’s lead over Biden widened further when Green Party presidential candidate Cornel West and progressive Jill Stein were included in the poll. With leaners included, Trump secured 43 percent of the response, while Biden received 34 percent.

Kennedy’s support dropped to eighteen percent, while West and Stein received three percent and two percent respectively.

The poll also demonstrated Trump’s strong position in the Republican primary field. When asked who they would support if their state’s primary were held today, 67 percent of GOP voters selected the 45th president, putting him 58 points ahead of Gov. Ron DeSantis, who came in second with 9 percent. Trump’s lead increased by seven points compared to the October poll, while DeSantis experienced a two-point drop in support.

Former Gov. Nikki Haley received 8 percent support, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy received 5 percent, and former Gov. Chris Christie earned 3 percent of the response. Two percent of respondents favored someone else, and 5 percent were undecided.

Furthermore, 84 percent of GOP voters believe that Trump will win the nomination, while 65 percent of all poll respondents share the same sentiment. The poll, which was conducted on November 15 and 16, did not specify the margin of error.
