No Labels Gains Attention as Chatter of a Manchin 2024 Bid Increases

The potential presidential bid of Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) has brought the spotlight onto No Labels, an organization that seeks to form a third-party ticket in the 2024 election. No Labels has been gathering information and assessing the viability of a unity ticket next year.

Manchin’s announcement that he will not seek another term in the Senate and his interest in a centrist political movement has fueled speculation about an independent campaign. No Labels is considered a likely outlet for a third-party candidate to appear on the ballot in 2024.

No Labels has already gained ballot access in 12 states and expects to be active in 27 states by the end of the year. The organization aims to be on the ballot in 34 states by the spring.

While it is not currently in discussions with Manchin about being on the ticket, No Labels has praised him for his engagement with independent voters and important issues.

Other prominent figures, such as former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman (R) and former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R), have also engaged with No Labels and expressed the possibility of a third-party run.

No Labels has released a policy booklet outlining its views on various topics, and any potential candidate would need to embrace these key elements. However, critics have expressed concerns about the impact of a third-party bid on President Biden’s chances of reelection.

Think tank Third Way has warned that a No Labels ticket could ultimately benefit former President Trump, the front-runner for the GOP nomination, and cast doubt on the feasibility of a third-party candidate winning the necessary electoral votes.

Nevertheless, No Labels has emphasized its opposition to another Trump presidency and believes there is voter dissatisfaction with the likely nominees in 2024.

Recent polls have shown mixed favorability ratings for Biden and Trump, with a significant portion of voters having an unfavorable view of both candidates. No Labels points to the increase in self-described independents since the 1992 presidential race as evidence that there is an opening for a third-party candidate.

The organization believes that voter dissatisfaction with the choices currently available has not yet been fully recognized by Washington.
