North Korea Intensifies War Preparations in Response to U.S. and NATO Allies Actions

North Korea has announced its intent to elevate preparations for war, specifically within its munitions industry and nuclear weapons sector. North Korea’s state media has reported that the country’s military and defense sectors will intensify war preparations in response to what it perceives as “unprecedented anti-DPRK [North Korea] confrontation maneuvers of the U.S. and its vassal forces.”

Throughout the year, longstanding tensions between North Korea and its southern neighbor, South Korea—a staunch U.S. ally—have flared up due to North Korean missile tests and aggressive rhetoric. On December 19, the U.S., Japan, and South Korea jointly announced the activation of a real-time data sharing mechanism to monitor North Korea’s missile activity. A joint statement by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the foreign ministers of South Korea and Japan reaffirmed the ironclad commitment to defending South Korea and Japan by all means, including nuclear capabilities.
