Suspected Houthi Missile Attack Sets Ship in Gulf of Aden Ablaze

A suspected missile attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels caused a ship to blaze in the Gulf of Aden.

The attack occurred on Thursday and involved two missiles fired, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations center.

The vessel affected was a Palau-flagged cargo ship named Islander.

Coalition military assets were deployed in response to the incident, as confirmed by the private security firm Ambrey.

Intercept Near Eilat

Sirens blared over Eilat, Israel, early Thursday morning, followed by online videos depicting a suspected interception. 

Israel later confirmed the interception using its Arrow missile defense system.

The Arrow system, designed to destroy long-range ballistic missiles in space, successfully intercepted a launch identified in the Red Sea area.

The Israeli military stated that the target did not breach Israeli territory and posed no threat to civilians.

Houthis Silent on Attacks

The Houthi rebels did not immediately claim responsibility for either attack, although they typically acknowledge their assaults in the hours following. 

The attacks occurred amid escalating conflicts over Israel’s actions against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Red Sea Targeted

Since November, the Houthis have targeted ships in the Red Sea and adjacent waters, particularly in response to Israel’s conflict with Hamas. 

Ships with minimal or no clear ties to Israel have been frequently targeted, disrupting trade routes.
