In a heartbreaking incident, a Florida man, Riley John Groover, allegedly shot and killed his pregnant transgender partner, Camdyn Rider, in front of witnesses outside their Winter Haven home. The 21-year-old transgender man was eight months pregnant at the time of the shooting. Tragically, despite efforts by first responders and medical staff, the unborn baby could not be saved. Following the shooting, Groover took his own life, leading authorities to classify the incident as a “murder-suicide.”
Groover and Rider were engaged and expecting a baby boy, as evident from Rider’s Facebook profile. In a post in June, Rider expressed excitement about becoming a father to their son, whom they planned to name Oliver John Lee. The couple seemed happy and in love, but family members shared that their relationship could be volatile, and they had previous arguments, some of which turned physical.

According to reports, none of the previous altercations between Groover and Rider were reported to law enforcement. Groover’s mother revealed that the couple often argued over household chores, and she believes that a fight over work around the house led to the tragic murder-suicide.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd referred to the incident as a “violent and horrific double murder” that claimed the lives of both Rider and the unborn baby. The sheriff urged the public to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
