Trump Attorney Rejects Idea of Plea Deal in Response to Federal Indictment

Alina Habba, an attorney for former U.S. President Donald Trump, has dismissed the notion of Trump accepting a plea deal in response to his recent indictment on federal charges. In an interview with Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday,” Habba declared such a move as an “admission of guilt,” insisting that Trump has “done nothing wrong.”

Last week, Trump was indicted on 37 federal counts, including willful retention of national defense information, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and false statements. The charges resulted from a months-long investigation led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, which was sparked by an FBI raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

Habba strongly refuted the charges and highlighted her belief in a dual-tier system of justice that treats the Biden and Trump families differently. In response to a question about the potential of Trump facing “decades” behind bars if found guilty, Habba responded that Trump has “done nothing wrong,” describing the situation as politically motivated and a form of election interference.

Further, Habba and other critics argue that Trump had the right to declassify material under the Presidential Records Act, implying the charges against him may lack validity. She said, “He has every right to have classified documents that he declassified under the Presidential Records Act. So, yes, they’re making it sound like a five-alarm fire. It’s not. It’s a very simple thing.”

The former president is scheduled to appear in a federal court in Miami on Tuesday.
