Former President Donald Trump drew attention to what he perceives as a significant coincidence: the timing of his indictment and the emergence of a document reportedly tying then-Vice President Joe Biden to a $5 million bribery scheme.
Trump was arraigned at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, facing 37 federal charges related to a documents case. His comments followed this event, and were made at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club.

Trump highlighted the FD-1023 document that was obtained and reviewed by Republicans on the House Oversight Committee on the same day he was indicted. This document allegedly implicates Biden in a bribery scheme with Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
“It’s also no coincidence these charges against me came down the very same day evidence revealed Joe Biden took a $5 million bribe from Ukraine,” Trump claimed. He criticized the FBI and the Justice Department, suggesting that his indictment was receiving far more attention than the bribery allegations against Biden.

Trump also referenced comments from Senator Chuck Grassley, who stated that “an FBI informant document possesses redacted references to a foreign national possessing 15 audio recordings of phone calls between himself and Hunter Biden and two audio recordings of phone calls between himself and then-Vice President Joe Biden.”
In his speech, Trump suggested that his indictment was meant to draw attention away from the alleged corruption involving Biden. He claimed that the Burisma executive who allegedly paid the bribe reportedly has recordings of conversations with Biden.
“Let’s go out and let’s indict President Trump so they don’t talk about the $5 million bribe,” Trump posited. He added, “Just yesterday, Senator Grassley revealed that the Burisma executive who allegedly paid the bribe reportedly has Crooked Joe on tape.”
Trump also urged his fellow Republicans to “get tougher.”
