Trump Claims Iranian Attack on Israel Wouldn’t Have Occurred Under His Watch

Former President Donald Trump quickly responded to Iran’s recent airstrike against Israel, asserting on his social media platform that such an attack would not have occurred if he were still in office.

Trump wrote, “ISRAEL IS UNDER ATTACK. This should never have been allowed to happen – This would NEVER have happened if I were President!”

His remarks came shortly after the Israeli Defense Forces reported that Iran had launched a significant drone attack.

This military action has escalated tensions in the region, drawing international concern and a swift response from current U.S. administration officials.

In contrast to Trump’s criticism, the Biden administration has reiterated its steadfast support for Israel.

National Security Council Spokesperson Adrienne Watson emphasized the United States’ unwavering commitment to Israel’s security amid these threats.

Trump has previously expressed strong support for Israel’s actions in Gaza following the Hamas attack on October 7.

However, his recent statements suggest a shift, advocating for a quicker resolution to the conflict and a return to peace.

Trump also claimed that President Biden had canceled a “taped” speech about the situation after reading Trump’s posts, which was incorrect.

Biden had not planned to address the nation that evening and had already traveled to the White House to manage the crisis.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, aligning with Trump, criticized the Biden Administration for its policies towards Israel and Iran, suggesting that these had exacerbated the situation.

“The Biden Administration’s undermining of Israel and appeasement of Iran have contributed to these terrible developments,” he said in a statement.

Amidst the ongoing conflict, President Biden proposed a temporary cease-fire in Gaza to facilitate humanitarian aid, demonstrating a balanced approach to the crisis while also moving forward with an $18 billion fighter jet sale to Israel, indicating long-planned military support.

Reports have surfaced of internal dissent within the U.S. State Department, with staff expressing opposition to the continued U.S. support for Israel’s military actions in Gaza, reflecting divisions over current foreign policy strategies.

As Trump continues his campaign for re-election, he is expected to further address these geopolitical issues, which could provide additional insights into his foreign policy positions.

The unfolding events and varied responses from current and former U.S. leaders highlight the complex dynamics of international relations and domestic politics as they play out on the global stage.
