Tuberville: Biden Border Policies Could Lead to Regular Attacks Similar to 9/11

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) criticized President Biden’s border policies, warning that they could result in 9/11-style attacks occurring “every few weeks.” In an interview with Newsmax’s “The Balance,” Tuberville expressed his concern about the potential consequences of the current administration’s approach.

He stated, “The Biden administration… is going to get us in so much trouble. We’re going to have a 9/11 attack every few weeks if we don’t watch it.” Tuberville further criticized the lack of action and care shown by those responsible for governing the nation, emphasizing his disappointment in the neglect towards American citizens and taxpayers.

These remarks were initially brought to attention by Mediate.

To support his argument, Tuberville pointed to the recent surprise attack launched by Hamas on Israel, which resulted in over 1,200 casualties. Tuberville asserted that after such attacks, the Biden administration should have instructed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to deploy “every available military personnel” to secure the U.S. border.

He echoed claims made by numerous Republican lawmakers who advocate for stricter border security by contending that “hundreds” of terrorists cross the U.S. border.

A report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released this month revealed that from October 2022 to September of this year, authorities apprehended 169 individuals at the southern border whose names were listed on the U.S.’s terrorist watch list.

This marks an increase from the previous fiscal year’s 98 arrests and the 15 arrests in 2021. Although encounters with individuals on the watch list are deemed “very uncommon” by the CBP, some lawmakers have highlighted these statistics to express their growing concerns.

Both Republicans and some Democrats have intensified pressure on the White House in recent months, expressing worries about the influx of migrants across the southern border. Tuberville was part of a group of 13 Republicans who urged Biden to extend the border wall.

This request came shortly after the administration announced its decision to waive certain environmental laws to allow for wall construction in Texas.

Many Republican lawmakers have linked their support for additional aid to Ukraine with demands for enhanced border security measures. Senate Republicans outlined a list of immigration reforms they require to be included in any foreign aid package for Ukraine.

These reforms encompass the resumption of border wall construction, increased compensation for Border Patrol agents, and reformed asylum laws. The Democrats have already expressed opposition to some of these proposals, setting the stage for potentially difficult budget negotiations.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) labeled the proposed border security reforms as a “total non-starter.”
