Tuberville Warns of Frequent Attacks Similar to 9/11 Due to Biden Policies

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) expressed concerns about President Biden’s approach to border policies, suggesting that they could lead to 9/11-style attacks occurring “every few weeks.”

In an interview with Newsmax’s “The Balance,” Tuberville criticized the Biden administration, stating, “The Biden administration… is going to get us in so much trouble. We’re going to have a 9/11 attack every few weeks if we don’t watch it.”

Tuberville further expressed his frustration, stating, “It is out of control, but this group could care less… I was an educator, and I’m up here, watching what’s going on – I’m thinking… who cares? Who cares about the American people? Who cares about the taxpayers of this country? I can’t find anybody on both sides of the aisle.”

These remarks from Tuberville were initially reported by Mediate. Tuberville cited the recent surprise attack by Hamas on Israel, which resulted in the death of over 1,200 individuals, to argue that the Biden administration should have instructed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to deploy “every available military personnel” to the U.S. border to address potential threats following such attacks.

Tuberville echoed the claims made by several Republican lawmakers, stating that “hundreds” of terrorists are crossing the U.S. border. A report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) released this month revealed that 169 individuals on the U.S. terrorist watch list were arrested at the southern border between October 2022 and September of this year.

The previous fiscal year saw 98 arrests, and in 2021, there were 15 arrests of individuals on the watch list. While encounters with individuals on the watch list are considered “very uncommon,” lawmakers have used this data to highlight their concerns.

In recent months, both Republicans and some Democrats have exerted pressure on the White House to address the issue of migrants crossing the southern border.

Tuberville led a group of 13 Republicans last month in calling on Biden to expand the border wall, following the administration’s announcement that it would waive certain environmental laws to allow for wall construction in Texas.

Many Congressional Republicans have linked their support for additional aid to Ukraine with the implementation of border security measures. Senate Republicans outlined a list of immigration reforms they are demanding be included in any foreign aid package for Ukraine.

These reforms include resuming the construction of the southwestern border wall, increasing pay for Border Patrol agents, and enacting reformed asylum laws.

Such demands create challenges for budget negotiations, with Democrats already opposing some of their counterparts’ proposals. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) described the proposed border security reforms as a “total non-starter.”
