Attorneys representing an IRS whistleblower who claimed to possess information regarding alleged mishandling and political interference in the ongoing criminal probe into Hunter Biden have informed key congressional lawmakers that the whistleblower has been removed from the investigation.
The whistleblower’s legal team also stated that the investigative team working on the case had been taken off, according to the letter obtained by CNN.
The attorneys, including Tristan Leavitt, President of Empower Oversight, and Mark Lytle, revealed that the whistleblower was informed of the change at the request of the Department of Justice.
The letter emphasized that the investigation focused on a “high-profile, controversial subject,” which sources have confirmed to be Hunter Biden.
Federal prosecutors investigate Hunter Biden for alleged tax crimes
For several years and under three attorneys general, federal prosecutors have investigated Hunter Biden for alleged tax crimes and a false statement, potentially leading to charges.
However, no charges have been filed thus far, and Hunter Biden has denied wrongdoing.
The IRS stated on Tuesday, declining to comment on the specific taxpayer matter but expressing a commitment to protecting whistleblowers and ensuring the integrity of the whistleblower process.

Whistleblower removed, investigative team sidelined
The Justice Department also refrained from commenting on the issue, emphasizing that the investigation of Hunter Biden is being handled by US Attorney David Weiss, who has the authority to make investigative decisions and bring charges as deemed appropriate.
The move to remove the whistleblower from the investigation and sideline the investigative team occurred after some agents complained about being excluded from discussions due to alleged leaks.

The letter was addressed to both Democratic and Republican chairpersons, as well as ranking members of relevant congressional committees.
Republican members of the House Ways and Means Committee confirmed receiving the letter.
They expressed concern about potential retaliation against whistleblowers, urging Commissioner Werfel to provide information to Congress promptly and ensure protection for those exposing government misconduct.
Political appointees hinder charges in the Hunter Biden case
Previously, the IRS whistleblower alleged that political appointees were hindering US Attorney David Weiss from bringing charges in the Hunter Biden case, contradicting assurances given by Attorney General Merrick Garland that Weiss had the authority to make final decisions regarding prosecution.
The whistleblower also claimed to possess information contradicting sworn testimony by a senior political appointee, identified as Garland.

Attorneys for the IRS whistleblower have met with congressional investigators to prepare for a potential interview where the whistleblower intends to share information with Congress.
