An evacuation was required at the White House on Sunday following the discovery of a substance that tested positive for cocaine, as per a recent report.
‘White powder’ located inside The White House
Late Monday evening, The Washington Post revealed that the discovered substance, described as “a white powder” located “inside the White House” had tested positive for cocaine.
This information was cited from an official familiar with the investigation and a recording of a dispatch from a D.C. fire crew that responded to the incident.
Recordings of the dispatch can be found on openmhz.com, a platform dedicated to publishing all radio transmissions from police and fire departments.
At 8:49 p.m. ET, as reported by The Post, a member of the D.C. Fire Department hazmat team communicated the results of the test over the radio, stating, “We have a yellow bar saying cocaine hydrochloride.”
This communication, also reviewed by Breitbart News, came about an hour after the hazmat team arrived at the White House, corroborated by photos provided by an independent journalist.
Dispatch confirmed as coming from The White House
Citing an anonymous official familiar with the investigation, The Post confirmed that this dispatch came from “the White House call Sunday night.”
The official also mentioned that the quantity of the discovered substance was small.
In an interaction with Breitbart News, U.S. Secret Service spokesman, Steven Kopek, refrained from confirming whether the substance contained cocaine, stating,
“The Secret Service does not comment on an ongoing investigation.”
Substance led to an evacuation of The White House
However, in a later conversation with The Post, another spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, revealed that further testing of the substance is underway to confirm its nature, while authorities investigate how it came to be in the White House.
Guglielmi also informed The Post that the discovery of the substance led to increased security and a brief evacuation of the White House, clarifying that President Joe Biden was not on the premises at the time.
Uncertainty over how the substance found its way to The White House
Regarding the incident, Guglielmi stated, “an investigation into the cause and manner” of how the substance entered the White House is ongoing.
He did not specify where in the White House the substance was discovered or how it was packaged.
The substance was discovered during “routine rounds” by uniformed Secret Service officers.
The White House, which is closed to the public, mandates screening by the Secret Service and records the presence of all who enter.
