Republican candidate for California’s 49th Congressional District, Kate Monroe, has taken a proactive approach to address border security concerns by purchasing and installing 400 feet of razor wire at a notorious gap along the U.S.-Mexico border.
This move comes as the area, known as the “San Judas Break,” has seen a surge in illegal border crossings, drawing national attention to the issue.
Grave National Security Risk
Following her tour to one of the most notorious gaps in the U.S. border with Mexico, Kate told Fox News Digital, “It prevents a grave national security risk.”
Identifying a Weak Point
The “San Judas Break,” located in Southern California and just 80 miles east of San Diego, has emerged as a significant vulnerability in the border barrier.
Despite the presence of tall steel fencing in the area, a small gap near a rock formation has provided easy access for migrants seeking to enter the United States illegally.
Size of the Break
“This hole is big enough that I have seen 150 people walk through it in less than a minute,” a local aid worker, Sam Schultz, told the outlet.
Motivation for Action
Monroe expressed frustration with the lack of action on border security. She tod Fox News, “I felt the anger and frustrations of millions of fellow Americans watching in horror as thousands of people poured through.”
She added that such gaps allow “terrorists, drugs, and human trafficking to infiltrate while local and national city economies bear the burden of supporting these migrants.”
Taking Matters Into Her Own Hands
Monroe said, “So I decided, if no one is going to do something about it, I will. I purchased 400 feet of razor wire, and along with members of my staff, hung the wire along the gaps ourselves.”
Monroe lives about 50 miles from the location of the break.
Not Much
Aware that the act might “not be much”, the Marine veteran and House candidate argued that her actions would “unquestionably slow down the threats entering our country.”
Support from Border Officials
Despite the unconventional approach, Monroe said she received support from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials, who appreciated her initiative in addressing the security concerns.
They provided assistance and guidance to Monroe and her team during the installation process.
Response from Mexican Authorities
In response to Monroe’s efforts and the increased attention to the border gap, the Mexican government has established a checkpoint near the area to deter illegal crossings.
This collaborative approach reflects the shared commitment to border security on both sides of the border.
Impact on Congressional Campaign
Monroe’s actions underscore her dedication to addressing border security issues, a key platform in her campaign for Congress.
She has emphasized the concerns of constituents in the 49th Congressional District, who have expressed fear and frustration over the ongoing crisis at the border.
Changing Tactics of Migrants
While Monroe’s intervention has made a difference at the San Judas Break, migrants have begun to seek alternative routes for crossing the border, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to address border security challenges.
Concerns About Illegal Immigration
Monroe shared her concerns on illegal immigrations.
“Illegals are overtaking private property, robbing homes and businesses; sidewalks in California are flooded with illegal migrants. My community is living in growing fear,” she said.
National Security Implications
Beyond the immediate concerns of illegal immigration, Monroe emphasized the broader national security implications of porous borders.
She warned of the potential for criminals and terrorists to exploit vulnerabilities in the border barrier and called for decisive action to protect American interests.
Continued Advocacy for Security Measures
Moving forward, Monroe remains committed to advocating for robust border security measures and comprehensive immigration reform.
She stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of illegal immigration while prioritizing the safety and security of American citizens.
