As the 2024 presidential elections approach, President Joe Biden is closing the gap between himself and former President Donald Trump as per a latest poll conducted by Siena College and the New York Times.
The latest poll indicates a close contest between Biden and Trump, with only a one-point difference separating the two.
While Trump is still leading at 46%, Biden is breathing down his neck at 45%.
A comparison with March’s polling data from the same sources shows a positive shift for Biden.

Two months ago, Trump led by five percentage points, which has now shrunk to a nearly negligible margin.
The poll suggests solid loyalty from the bases of both candidates.
Among Trump’s 2020 voters, 94% are willing to still support him, even though this has come down slightly from 97% in an earlier poll last month.
Biden has increased his retention of 2020 voters from 83% to 89%.

A good news for Biden is that Black and Hispanic voters — critical demographics in his re-election bid seem to be coming back around to him.
However, their support towards Biden is still less than what it was in the previous election in 2020.
Age remains a concern for Biden, with 69% of respondents viewing him as too old to effectively serve as president.
Interestingly, this concern has decreased among voters over 65.
The economy and immigration are pivotal issues in the 2024 campaign.

Poll results show Trump is preferred over Biden on economic matters, with 64% approval of Trump’s economic policies compared to 63% disapproval of Biden’s.
On immigration, Trump also has a lead in approval ratings.
This poll surveyed 1,059 registered voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points, underscoring the tight competition and variability that could impact the final election outcome.
This polling data not only reflects the changing dynamics of voter preference but also underscores the fluctuating nature of political loyalty and issue-driven voter behavior as the campaign heats up.
