Kids love role-playing, especially when mom and dad join in on the fun. However, a husband who posted on Reddit felt his wife took her role-playing role too far, and perhaps needed to grow up a bit.
Wife takes ‘role-playing’ very seriously
OP explains in his post, “For the past several months, she has been eerily acting like a child. I understand that she’s playing with our daughter, but it comes across as weird to me to the degree that she plays the role”.
One day, his daughter was hungry and asked her Dad to make her a mini pizza – which he happily did for his little princess. His wife joined the fun and said, “me too because I’m a princess too.”
Her husband responded, “no, you’re an adult, not a princess. I’ll make you one, but you’re an adult.”
What a way to kill some innocent fun with a child!

Neither the wife nor the daughter saw this coming, “She (the wife) laughed nervously and said ok, never mind. Our daughter heard and said, ‘dad, mom is a princess too.’ I just said hmm, hmm, agreeing, but I didn’t want to have to explain to her. I did feel bad because my wife changed out of her princess clothes too.”
OP received little sympathy from the Reddit community, “Your wife is investing herself in your daughter’s imaginary play. Do you actually think your wife is delusional? Do you think she really didn’t know whether or not she is a princess? Seriously, pull your head out; of course, she doesn’t really think she’s a princess,” wrote one commenter.
Another Reddit community member said the only acceptable “No” in response would have been, “No, you’re not; you’re a queen.” Another comment noted the healthy benefits of role-playing, “Fostering imagination has so many growth benefits which will help your daughter as she grows.”
The husband obviously knows that his wife is not a real-life princess. However, that is not the point here. This is about their daughter and playing along for her sake and enjoyment.
Many thought the father needed to take into account how his negativity could possibly affect their daughter’s confidence too, since young girls are very impressionable.
Some commenters even suggested he should lighten up and perhaps wear a prince’s outfit next time he makes his wife and daughter a mini pizza!
