The View’ co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg vehemently criticized Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, attacking his vow to end “wokeism” while unabashedly celebrating their own “wokeness.”
Responding to a clip from DeSantis’s appearance on “Fox and Friends,” Behar confidently asserted, “You know what, I’m woke, and I’m proud of it. Okay?”
In March 2022, DeSantis signed legislation in Florida to safeguard parental rights, a response to a wave of lawsuits across the country concerning covert social transitions of children in schools.
As a result of this legislation, Florida removed several books from circulation due to explicit content, including titles such as “Gender Queer,” “Let’s Talk About It,” and “It’s Perfectly Normal.”
DeSantis takes a stand against ‘critical race theory’
DeSantis also opposed an Advanced Placement course that reportedly incorporated elements of Critical Race Theory (CRT), which posits that America is intrinsically racist, teaches individuals to view every social interaction and person through a racial lens, and seeks to hold ancestral groups accountable for past actions.

The College Board revised the course framework after Florida rejected the initial version on January 12.
DeSantis condemns companies for ESG-based decisions
The Florida governor criticized companies making decisions based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors.
DeSantis signed legislation prohibiting state agencies and local governments from considering ESG criteria when issuing bonds in May.
The law further barred banks from using “social credit” as a determinant in loan decisions and prohibited discrimination based on political, social, or religious ideology.
DeSantis voices concern about ‘woke’ policies
During a speech on May 13 at the Feenstra Family Picnic near Sioux City, Iowa, DeSantis voiced his concerns about these policies, remarking, “The policies that they’re proposing through these things could not win at the ballot box in Iowa, they could not win at the ballot box in Florida.
“They are trying to do an end run around our constitutional system and impose a leftist agenda through corporate power.”

Goldberg challenges DeSantis ‘anti-wokeism’ policies
Responding directly to DeSantis’s remarks, Goldberg directed her words at him, stating, “Hey, Ron, being asleep as you are, and have been for quite some time – see, many of us have been awake this whole time. We don’t have any choice.”
“We don’t have time as women to rest up and be asleep and see things – we don’t have time for that. So you want to fight all of us?”
“We’re watching you, Ron,” Goldberg warns DeSantis
“You’ll also be fighting your women because they’re not going to take this ridiculousness that you are thrusting – it’s not like they’re voting for this. You are making these decisions for your state.”
Goldberg warned Governor DeSantis, stating, “We’re watching you, Ron.”
The ideological divide surrounding ‘wokeism’
