Hillary Clinton: Florida isn’t ‘safe’ for People of Color, LGBTQ+ People, Even Corporations

Not surprisingly, Hillary Clinton has expressed her concerns about the safety of black and LGBT individuals in Florida following the issuance of a travel advisory by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

In a tweet, Clinton highlighted Governor Ron DeSantis’s clashes with Disney and the travel advisory, stating, “Ron DeSantis’s ultra-MAGA Florida isn’t safe for people of color, LGBTQ+ people, or even multi-billion-dollar corporations.”

The NAACP issued the travel advisory, urging black people to avoid Florida due to what it perceives as Governor DeSantis’s efforts to erase Black history and restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in schools.

The advisory states that Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals, emphasizing the state’s devaluation and marginalization of their contributions and challenges.

DeSantis recently signed a series of bills to protect children from what he described as “surgical procedures and experimental puberty blockers” associated with the transgender agenda.

One such bill, S.B. 254, prohibits the mutilation of children. Additional measures establish sex-based and changing facilities in public buildings and detention facilities.

It also protects children from sexually explicit adult shows by penalizing venues that allow their attendance.

Interestingly, the NAACP’s board chairman, Leon W. Russell, resides in Florida, leading Republican Party of Florida Chairman Christian Ziegler to challenge the board’s stance.

Ziegler offered assistance with moving costs for those who believed Florida to be so bad. Russell denied any hypocrisy on their part, stating that the NAACP encourages people to stay in Florida and fight for their rights.

In addition to the NAACP’s travel advisory, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), a Hispanic civil rights group, also issued a travel advisory regarding Florida.

LULAC cited the measures signed by DeSantis to protect Florida residents from the adverse effects of illegal immigration, particularly Senate Bill 1718, which made Florida the first state to implement full E-Verify for employment.

These travel advisories reflect the growing concerns among specific organizations regarding Florida’s political climate and policies.
