Rep. Luttrell and Republican Colleagues Demand Accountability for Antisemitic VA Employee

Republican Representative Morgan Luttrell from Texas, along with thirteen of his Republican colleagues, has written a letter to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Denis McDonough, calling for action to be taken against a VA employee who made derogatory comments about Israel’s efforts to retrieve hostages held by Hamas.

The letter, exclusively obtained by Breitbart News, emphasizes that antisemitism should not be tolerated within the VA and urges Secretary McDonough to address the situation promptly and transparently.

In the letter, Rep. Luttrell expresses his firm condemnation of all forms of antisemitism and stresses the need for accountability. He states, “Vile comments, such as Ms. Morrad’s, will not be tolerated, and there must be consequences for her actions.”

Luttrell is eager to hear from Secretary McDonough about the measures being taken to address the issue and ensure that antisemitism is not allowed within the VA.

The letter is co-signed by Republican Representatives Eli Crane, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Ralph Norman, August Pfluger, Michael Waltz, Cory Mills, Dan Crenshaw, Keith Self, Randy Weber, Derrick Van Orden, Juan Ciscomani, Matt Rosendale, and Mike Carey. Together, they strongly condemn the mocking remarks made by Shakeba Morrad, a U.S. Attorney at the Office of the General Counsel for the VA.

Morrad’s derogatory comments were captured in a snippet of a video originally posted on her Instagram account. Using a mocking tone, she said, “We just want our hostages back, give us our 200 hostages!” This video has since been deleted.

The VA has announced that they are currently investigating the matter. However, the lawmakers are demanding an immediate update on the progress of the investigation and any disciplinary actions taken against Morrad.

In their letter, the lawmakers describe Morrad’s behavior as unacceptable, particularly in light of the recent terrorist attack committed by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

They emphasize that the mocking of Israeli hostages and their families is reprehensible and goes against the core values of the VA, which include integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence.

They argue that Morrad’s actions are inconsistent with these values and she should not be allowed to remain within the VA. The signatories of the letter, several of whom are veterans themselves, are giving Secretary McDonough a deadline of December 6, 2023, to provide an update on the investigation into Morrad’s behavior and a clear outline of any disciplinary actions that have been taken.

They are determined to ensure that accountability is upheld and that antisemitic attitudes are not tolerated within the VA.
