Former president Donald Trump has reacted to a bombshell report by Special Counsel John Durham. According to Durham, the FBI relied on “uncorroborated intelligence” to kick-start an investigation into Trump’s supposed ties with Russia.
Trump responds to Durham report with post on Truth Social
Trump expressed his sentiments on Truth Social, stating, “WOW! After extensive research, Special Counsel John Durham concludes the FBI never should have launched the Trump-Russia Probe!”
He continued, “In other words, the American Public was scammed, just as it is being scammed right now by those who don’t want to see GREATNESS for AMERICA!”
Initially, the investigation by the FBI was initiated to delve into alleged connections between Trump and the Russian government during the election of 2016.
In 2019, Attorney General Bill Barr assigned Durham to explore the beginnings of the FBI’s investigation, termed “Crossfire Hurricane.”
Monday’s report marked the end of a four-year investigation
After a four-year investigation, Durham released a report on Monday.
This report highlighted that at the onset of Crossfire Hurricane, “neither U.S. nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings.”
Durham says the FBI ‘failed to uphold their mission’
In his report, Durham also stated that the FBI “failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law.” He further indicated that the FBI continued its investigation even after “the Director of the FBI and others learned of significant and potentially contrary intelligence.”
The report concluded that FBI agents had a predisposition to investigate Trump.
In response to the findings detailed in Durham’s report, the FBI conceded that it had undertaken reforms post the launch of Crossfire Hurricane.
FBI releases public statement in the wake of Durham report
In a public statement, the FBI said, “The conduct in 2016 and 2017 that Special Counsel Durham examined was the reason that current FBI leadership already implemented dozens of corrective actions, which have now been in place for some time”.
“Had those reforms been in place in 2016, the missteps identified in the report could have been prevented. This report reinforces the importance of ensuring the FBI continues to do its work with the rigor, objectivity, and professionalism the American people deserve and rightly expect.”
